3 AWESOME BALL STRIKING DRILLS

Coaching notes

Splitting the clubface into four quadrants using a tee peg and intentionally trying to hit shots from specific areas (low-toe, high-toe, low-heel, high-heel) to develop superior control over club delivery.

Before you start

  • Take a driver (or another club) and spray the face.
  • Use a tee peg to draw two lines (vertical and horizontal) splitting the clubface into four quadrants: low-toe, high-toe, low-heel, and high-heel.

Movement sequence

  1. Maintain a consistent setup stance without changing how you address the ball.
  2. Intentionally attempt to strike the golf ball from each of the four designated face quadrants.
  3. Observe where the spray mark lands relative to your target quadrant and evaluate your ability to control strike location.

Key points

  • Verify whether the impact mark corresponds to the intended quadrant (e.g., high-toe vs low-heel).
  • Assess your awareness of the clubhead's position throughout the entire golf swing.

Common mistakes

Changing your setup address position when trying to hit different quadrants. Expecting immediate perfection when attempting intentional off-center strikes, as developing this skill takes practice.

Practice notes

The best golfers in the world have the skill to control where the club is delivered and can adjust if they trend toward the toe or heel. Gaining control over strike location allows you to correct mis-hits on the course through natural skill rather than major mechanical overhauls.
