3 AWESOME BALL STRIKING DRILLSCoaching notes
Introducing environmental variability and uneven lies (using foam squares, rough mats, or depressions) to replicate golf course challenges and test your ability to find the center of the club.
Before you start
- Set up your hitting area with tools to create variability, such as foam squares under your feet to simulate uneven lies.
- Spray the clubface with strike spray for feedback.
Movement sequence
- Stand on foam squares to create an uneven stance (replicating ball below/above feet or slopes).
- Alternatively, place the ball in the rough part of the mat where it sits higher, or in a driver tee hole to simulate a depression.
- Hit shots while adapting to the altered environment and strive to still find the center of the clubface.
Key points
- Notice how the ball sits higher in the rough (often resulting in contact near the top few grooves if adjustments aren't made).
- Monitor clubface strike marks while out of your comfort zone.
Common mistakes
Failing to adjust setup or expectations when the ball sits higher in the rough. Allowing uneven lies to disrupt your rhythm without focusing on centered contact.
Practice notes
Golf courses put you out of your comfort zone with uneven lies; this drill builds the skill and adaptability required on the course. Combines technical setup with skill, talent, and adaptability.
