Three Essential Passing and Receiving Drills | Individual Training Drills For FootballersCoaching notes
A warm-up drill focusing on receiving a wall pass with a directional first touch around three cones and immediately playing it back using both feet.
Before you start
- Set up 3 training cones in a line (or use water bottles/other objects if cones are not available).
- Position yourself facing a wall with a ball.
Movement sequence
- Receive the ball coming off the wall with a directional first touch.
- Move the ball ever so slightly around the cones to get a nice controlled first touch.
- Pass the ball straight back to the wall using both feet, ensuring an equal amount of touches and passes with the right and left foot.
Key points
- Keep the ball moving at all times to maintain momentum and flow of play.
- Change up the surface area used to control and pass the ball.
- Aim for about 20 reps on each side.
Common mistakes
Killing the ball dead instead of maintaining the flow and momentum of play.
Practice notes
Try to keep it to two touches as much as possible, though taking three touches at first is completely fine.
