The Simplest SWING SPEED Training Drill for Golf... Ever!

Coaching notes

A research-backed golf swing speed training protocol using your own driver as the primary training tool. The protocol focuses on high-output speed sets while minimizing excessive volume to protect the central nervous system and avoid overtraining.

Before you start

  • Ensure you are fully warmed up with standard mobility work targeting your hips, shoulders, neck, and ankles.
  • Perform this speed training protocol prior to any other training or heavy workouts so your central nervous system is fresh.
  • Take your regular setup position using your own driver from your golf bag.

Movement sequence

  1. Execute 10 straight swings at maximum speed (ripping it).
  2. Rest for 2 to 3 minutes between sets to allow full recovery.
  3. Repeat the 10-swing set for a total of 3 sets.

Key points

  • Swings must be performed at maximum speed during each set.
  • Strictly adhere to the 2-to-3-minute rest break between sets to maintain energy and speed output.

Common mistakes

Performing speed training at the end of a workout when your body and nervous system are already fatigued. Skipping or cutting short the 2-to-3-minute rest breaks between sets. Treating swing speed training as a complete substitute for foundational strength and conditioning work.

Practice notes

Pound for pound, using your existing driver provides high compliance, ease of use, and zero equipment cost. Minimizing swing volume and taking proper rest breaks preserves central nervous system energy to maximize speed gains. Combine this speed training protocol with a structured golf-specific strength and conditioning program to safely handle and harness the increased speed.
