Self-Drop Contact Point & Low-to-High Topspin Brush Drill

Position yourself at the service line. Set the racket face out in front at the intended contact point (straight arm or double-bend). Drop a ball by hand from below ball level (6 o'clock) and brush aggressively upward toward 12 o'clock, finishing with the racket tip pointing to the sky (windshield wiper) while loading and extending through the outside leg.

Key points

  • Position the contact point out in front of the body (further forward for straight arm, closer for double bend)
  • Visualize a clock face and brush from below 6 o'clock upward to 12 o'clock to produce heavy topspin
  • Finish with the racket tip pointing up toward the sky before progressing to an across-the-body finish
  • Load the outside back leg on the drop and drive upward through the legs at contact

Common mistakes

Dropping the ball behind or beside the hip instead of out in front, or hitting through flat rather than brushing low to high.
