5 At-Home Shooting Footwork Drills (No Hoop Needed) | Workout to Improve Shot Prep & StanceCoaching notes
Simulate coming off a screen with a trailing defender by performing a half-turn with a forward pivot and step towards the basket.
Before you start
- Start with your back to the direction you want to perform the forward pivot.
- Drop the ball behind you, far enough to create space from a trailing defender on your first step.
Movement sequence
- Complete 10 repetitions to the right.
- Complete 10 repetitions to the left.
- Take your first step towards the basket, followed quickly by your second step to align your feet.
Key points
- For right-handed shooters stepping with the left foot first, ensure the right foot follows behind quickly to be slightly in front of the left foot.
- Keep both feet shoulder-width apart in your final shooting stance.
Common mistakes
Dropping the ball too close to your body, failing to create space. Slow secondary foot recovery during the pivot.
