You Will Never Hit Your Driver The Same Again | 3 5's DrillCoaching notes
Focuses on right forearm position at last parallel and a hammering release action to generate maximum clubhead speed and proper face closure.
Before you start
- Ensure proper setup behind the ball and correct shallowing path from the previous drills.
Movement sequence
- Pause at last parallel in the downswing (when the club shaft is parallel to the ground).
- Check that the right forearm is well underneath the left forearm (enough space to fit a golf club shaft between them).
- Feel the action of hammering a wall with the tip of the club acting like an axe.
- Release the club late from the inside to hit the ball with maximum power.
Key points
- Right forearm is lower/underneath the left forearm at last parallel (not covering or blocking the left forearm).
- Club shaft is parallel to the ground in the downswing.
- Ball draws naturally from right to left with increased clubhead and ball speed.
Common mistakes
Getting the right forearm high and covering up the left forearm during an over-the-top or steep downswing. Snapping or rolling the club incorrectly early in the downswing.
Practice notes
Perform 5 reps of the hammer motion with the right forearm kept lower. Combine all three drills (tilt setup, bag drill, and forearm lag hammer release) for consistent high-speed drives.
