2 Drills That Will IMPROVE Your Ball Striking INSTANTLYCoaching notes
This segment reinforces the core concepts of staying centered around fixed points, maintaining the lead leg post, and ensuring rotation drives the weight transfer rather than side-to-side sliding.
Before you start
- Ensure proper setup posture with the lower body anchored forward (hip bump) and the upper body positioned on top of the lead leg rather than pitched back.
- Keep feet positioned to maintain pressure points on the inside/flat of the feet.
Movement sequence
- Take your stance with a definitive posted-up lead leg and staggered trail leg.
- Turn centered around fixed points, allowing weight transfer to happen naturally through body rotation.
- Execute smooth three-quarter knockdown shots focusing on covering the ball with the upper body through impact.
Key points
- Lead hip is posted dead up with the upper body directly on top of the left leg at impact.
- Stability maintained in the hands and wrists through impact.
- Chest actively covers the ball instead of falling away from it.
Common mistakes
Attempting a dramatic lateral hip bump move during the downswing (which the instructor warns against as a common flaw that causes getting stuck and falling backward). Permitting the spine to tilt perpendicularly away from the lower body in a stack-and-tilt fashion incorrectly. Swaying or sliding laterally, which robs the swing of rotation.
Practice notes
Emphasizes that every inch of sway or slide takes 10 degrees of rotation away. Allows the golfer to open up more around the left side and achieve ball-first, divot-later contact. Delivers an instantly more compressed and consistent ball flight.
