Directional Targeting Alternation Drill (Cross-Court & Down-the-Line)

Feed balls independently while alternating targets between deep high-clearance cross-court forehands and penetrating down-the-line shots. Vary self-feeds with different bounce heights, depths, and angles (including out of the air / drive volleys).

Key points

  • Alternate consecutively between hitting high heavy balls cross-court and driving lower balls down the line
  • Adjust contact point timing: hit slightly further in front for cross-court and let it travel marginally deeper for down-the-line
  • Vary feed types (high, short, wide, or direct off the air) to challenge adaptive footwork and contact precision

Common mistakes

Relying on the same static feed height and location, failing to train directional adaptability.
