5 Most Important Kick/Punch Combos For KickboxingCoaching notes
A multi-strike mix-up combining long-arm straight punches, a front push kick (teep), a jab, and a devastating step-in lead knee to overwhelm a shelled-up opponent.
Before you start
- Extend your arms long on the opening punches to establish distance and occupy the opponent's mind
- Keep a balanced posture ready to transition from long punches to short-range knee strikes
Movement sequence
- Throw a long jab, cross, jab (1-2-1)
- Throw a front kick (teep)
- Throw another jab
- Switch feet, close the distance, and drive a powerful lead knee into the target
Key points
- Use the initial straight punches as distractions rather than looking for a clean knockout
- Recognize when the opponent shells up thinking another front kick is coming, and drive the knee straight through
- Ensure bone-to-target contact on the knee even if the opponent tries to parry
Common mistakes
Trying to hit every single punch with maximum force instead of using the early punches as a rhythm-interrupting distraction Failing to close the distance effectively before launching the knee Leaving the hands low while stepping in
Practice notes
Advanced practitioners can incorporate a skip off the second or third jab Can be dynamically adapted into a round kick if the opponent's reaction calls for it
