5 Most Important Kick/Punch Combos For KickboxingCoaching notes
A complex 5-strike combination utilizing level changes and rapid attacks off the left side without skipping, combining straight punches, an inside low kick, another cross, and finishing with a lead leg head kick.
Before you start
- Start from your standard guard position
- Recognize that if you are close enough to punch, you can kick with the lead leg without skipping
Movement sequence
- Throw a jab (1)
- Throw a cross (2)
- Fade back slightly and land an inside low kick with the lead leg
- Fall forward into another cross
- Lean back slightly and launch a round kick up to the opponent's head level
Key points
- Ensure the lead leg foot lands exactly where your hand would be after the inside low kick
- Maintain continuous level changes from straight head-level punches down to the leg and back up to the head
- Catch the side of the opponent's head faster as you lean back
Common mistakes
Using a skipping motion when a direct lead leg kick is faster and more appropriate Rushing the rhythm and losing the distinct beat of the combination Keeping hands low while throwing the head kick
Practice notes
Works exceptionally well due to continuous level changes and disrupting the opponent's defensive rhythm Test and drill this combination in sparring to build fluidity
