5 Most Important Kick/Punch Combos For KickboxingCoaching notes
A classic Dutch-style kickboxing combination starting with straight punches, dropping down to a heavy left body hook, and finishing with a powerful rear low kick as the body unwinds.
Before you start
- Maintain a balanced guard and fighting stance
- Ensure proper distance to step in with the initial punches
Movement sequence
- Throw a crisp jab (1)
- Follow up with a straight cross (2)
- Level change and throw a heavy left hook to the body
- Unwind the body and smash in a right low kick to the opponent's thigh
Key points
- Put enough power into the jab and cross to distract the opponent
- Wind up the torso during the body hook to generate rotational momentum for the final low kick
- Land with heavy shin contact on the low kick
Common mistakes
Throwing punches with zero power and treating them like light taps instead of distractions Failing to level change properly on the body hook Losing balance or failing to pivot on the low kick
Practice notes
Commonly drilled in most gyms because it reliably makes the opponent heavy in their legs and unable to check efficiently Ensure you can adapt midway if the opponent shells up to the head instead
