Coiled Power Position Takeback & Acceleration Drill

From ready position, coil the upper body into the 'power position' with the racket head elevated above the wrist and the non-hitting arm tracking across the torso. Self-feed and unleash the swing into contact, allowing gravity and relaxation to drop the racket head and accelerate through the ball.

Key points

  • Lift the racket head higher than the grip during the unit turn to eliminate wrist tension and provide downward acceleration runway
  • Keep the non-dominant hand reaching across the torso to ensure full shoulder and trunk coil and balance
  • Maintain a loose, relaxed grip so the racket head drops effortlessly into the slot on the forward swing

Common mistakes

Letting the racket head drop completely flat/horizontal during the takeback, which creates wrist strain and kills leverage.
