Sprint Workout To Run Faster (APPROVED BY AN OLYMPIAN)Coaching notes
Works on maintaining a strong forward lean and shin angles parallel to the torso over a 20-meter distance.
Before you start
- Complete the 10-meter sprint phase and rest fully
- Reset at the starting line with adequate energy recovery (3-6 minutes rest)
Movement sequence
- Set up a 20-meter sprint distance following the initial 10m acceleration
- Accelerate out while maintaining a strong forward lean
- Drive legs through with shin angles kept parallel to the torso
Key points
- Strong forward lean maintained for as long as possible
- Shin angles parallel to the torso
- Transition from elliptical to more of a circular leg motion as speed builds, while keeping the forward lean
Common mistakes
Rounding the back when trying to force the forward lean Over striding due to lack of power, causing the foot to land ahead of the center of gravity and braking momentum
Practice notes
Longer forward lean duration allows more horizontal force to be put into the ground If the leg doesn't cycle fast enough, over striding forces the foot forward to prevent falling
